Arthur Raymond Miser Obituary
Arthur Raymond Miser, resident of Felton, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2012. He was born to Virgil and Doris Miser in San Francisco on November 22, 1923.
Ray served in the Air Force in WWII as an aircraft mechanic and gunner. In 1945 he settled in San Jose where he met his wife of 66 years, Joyce. He then graduated from Santa Clara University in 1950 with a B.M.E. Ray worked for the county of Santa Clara, retiring as a Senior Traffic Engineer in 1984. During that time he headed the first underwater Search and Rescue team for the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department, becoming a Dive Master for many loved ones.
In 1960 he was certified an N.A.U.I. Instructor #28 in the first course held in Houston, Texas. Ray had an active career as a Dive Master/Instructor for many years. His love for the ocean kept him exploring. He and lifelong friend, Norm Crowell founded and named the "Wild Hook" at Pleasure Point in 1941, becoming one of Santa Cruz's first surf spots. Ray continued his passion with years of fishing and diving out of the Santa Cruz and Monterey Harbors aboard his boat the "Callisto".
He is survived by the love of his life Joyce and their 6 children, Linda (Bob), Eric (JoAnn), Karen (Russ), Brian, Lisa, Scott (Jamie) and Diane Potraz whom he loved like a daughter; 13 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his "Haunt" Stella and his daughter Lisa.
