Fern M. Ebert
September 12, 1918 - January 31, 2018
Resident of Ben Lomond
Fern M. Ebert, being the incredible woman she was, passed peacefully in her sleep under the guise of a spectacular Super Blue Blood Moon at 5:08 AM on January 31, 2018.
Edgar and Muriel (McCoy) Jackson were overjoyed by the birth of their beautiful baby daughter, Fern, on September 12, 1918 in Alameda County, California. Fern and her parents moved to Santa Cruz shortly thereafter. She graduated from Santa Cruz High School. Fern remained in Santa Cruz for the rest of her life.
Fern was a beloved part of the community and was involved in many organizations including: Daisy Auxiliary, PEO Chapter SP, Eastern Star, past President of Tri-League, charter member of CASA and hostess chairman for parents and chaperones for the Miss California Pageant. She worked for Dr. Millslagle, DDS for many years as a bookkeeper and receptionist. These are just a few of the many activities that filled her life in Santa Cruz.
Gardening was her passion and pleasure. Her morning ritual was to stroll through her garden with her dog, Buffy, by her side tending to her beautiful roses plus her annual vegetable garden. This made her heart happy. Playing cards and traveling were also a large part of Fern's life.
Always eloquent, neatly dressed, Fern loved to cook and entertain for friends and family. She was constantly looking through magazines and books for new and different recipes.
Fern and LaVern "Bunny" Ebert (who predeceased her) were married and had two sons. She is survived by a loving family which includes her sons, Ted (Jackie) Ebert of Florida and Dan (Vickie) Ebert of Ben Lomond, CA; four grandchildren: Todd (Tanya) Ebert of Ohio, Stephen (Kathleen) Ebert of Ohio, Chad (Sara) Ebert of San Jose, CA and Kimberly (Holland) Woolley of Felton, CA; and ten great-grandchildren.
We'd like to express our gratitude and special thanks to Hospice of Santa Cruz and Paradise Villa of Santa Cruz for their love and care of our very special Mom.
In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to: Hospice of Santa Cruz County, 940 Disc Drive, Scotts Valley, CA 95066 ~or~ The Daisy Auxiliary (Family Service Agency) of the Central Coast, 104 Walnut Avenue, Suite 208, Santa Cruz, CA 95060 ~or~ the charity of your choice.
A private celebration of life will be held. She will be dearly missed.
