Obituary of Phyllis Enid Lee

Please share a memory of Phyllis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Phyllis Enid Lee passed away peacefully on August 2, 2015 in her Capitola home. She was 96. Enid was born on December 14, 1918, the youngest of 10 children. She grew up on a farm in Saskatchewan, Canada. After high school she graduated from nursing school and served as a nurse to returning servicemen during World War II. She met and fell in love with a young pilot with the Royal Canadian Air Force, Robert Lee, and they were married on August 30, 1945. Enid and Bob came to the U.S. in 1952, eventually settling in Capitola in 1957, where they raised a family of four boys. Enid was a full time mom. She was an active supporter of a myriad of youth organizations which included Capitola Cub Scouts, Mid-County Little League, Mid-County Pop Warner Football, the Soquel High Boosters Club, the Soquel High Speech and Debate program, and the Good Sports. The Capitola home was a frequent gathering place for the many friends that Enid and Bob had made in these organizations. She enjoyed her "evening nine" with Bob at DeLaveaga Golf Course for many years during the 70s and 80s. Enid and Bob moved to Davenport in 1987 after Bob retired. They returned to their home in Capitola in 2005. Enid and Bob loved their time in Davenport and were grateful for the friendships and community support they developed there. Enid loved travelling with Bob in their retirement years. They made two transcontinental trips in their camper van, stopping to explore points of interest along the way. The trips included travel to Canada to visit Enid's sisters, nieces, nephews and cousins. For many years Enid enjoyed hosting weekly "Spaghetti Night" dinner gatherings of family members at her home. Invariably she would burn the garlic bread, declaring that the char would "put hair on your chests." Enid was kind and considerate. She greeted everyone with a smile; she was quick to laugh. She had a long and wonderful life. We will miss her. Enid is survived by her sons, Doug Lee of Peoria, Arizona, Mark (Grace) Lee of San Jose and Bill Lee of Capitola; grandchildren, Graham (Heather) Lee of Bothell, Washington and Jessica (Ben) Goecke of Woodinville, Washington; and great-grandsons, Madden Lee and Miles Goecke. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Lee, in 2008; her son, Bob (Barbara) Lee of Santa Cruz, in 2014; her parents, John and Ruth Giles and her nine siblings. An announcement concerning a memorial service will be made at a later date. Special thanks to the caring staff of Lifespan Care Management Agency and Hospice Santa Cruz. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org/join_the_cause_donate.asp
