My heart goes out to the Squires/Smith family....so many happy memories growing up and hanging at their house. Your Dad was a great guy with a sense of humor~something much needed in his role as father, bailiff, and sheriff's posse. My thoughts are with you all. Vickie (Gaither) Dube

" So sorry to hear of Jeff's passing. I met Jeff in the Santa Cruz Courts. He was a nice Person to work with, always with a smile and willingness to help a rookie learn the ropes. R.I.P. Jeff, never forgotten. My condolences to Jeff's family. "

I spent years in court with Jeff Squires and talked with him almost every day. Jeff had a special touch. He liked people and they, almost without exception, liked him. Jeff treated everyone with respect and kindness regardless of the situation. I learned a lot from Jeff. My condolences to the family on the loss of such a wonderful person. Paul Meltzer

In 1976 at the age of 20, I was hired by the Sheriff's Office. I was initially assigned to the courts while awaiting the next police academy. On my first day I was introduced to Sgt. Don Asbury who would be my supervisor. While seemingly a humorous guy, he had an imposing demeanor as well. After a couple of hours two bailiff's walked up and introduced themselves: Jeff Squires and Marv Ennis. Jeff convinced Sgt. Asbury that he would be a good training officer for me and thus began my association with Jeff. He was one of the nicest men I have ever known. Although he called me "kid" in the beginning (and I certainly was) he treated me as an equal and made every effort to teach me the ropes. His attitude towards the job, the way he treated people (both the public and inmates), and commitment to his job were all things I tried to incorporate into my career. Jeff always seemed to be in a good mood and have a smile on his face. His laugh was unmistakable. After nearly 40 years now I still fondly remember Jeff and the impact he had on me those first few months working the courts.
Rest in Peace my friend.....my condolences to the family

Jeff was my favorite bailiff and a special friend during our years working together at court. I will always remember him as a kind, helpful and fun coworker and remember the fun times Opie and I shared with Millie and him at Sheriff Posse functions and other times throughout our friendship. Our condolences to his family. With fond memories, Carol and Opie Pogue.

Jeff became a Baliff about the time I was hired at the Sheriff's Office. He was always happy and ready with a joke or a prank. He was two months younger than my dad and I liked to remind him he was old enough to be my dad. A great guy to work with. Condolences to his family, I am sure they will miss him greatly. Sandy Sanderson, Rocklin Calif.

I worked in the Santa Cruz County District Arrorney Office 1967-1975, and Jeff was a true delight to everyone he came into contact with. He had a heart of gold, a great big smile, and always a helping hand if needed. Jeff was a true blessing to come in contact with!

So sad to hear the news. Mr. Squires was always so nice, as was his family. They were good neighbors and good friends to our family and the kid were all close, parents too. May God bless you all.
