Obituary of Leon Eldridge Hebert

Leon Eldridge Hebert, Jr., resident of La Selva Beach, passed away March 18, 2013, at the age of 87. Mr. Hebert was a native of Denver, Colorado, born on December 1, 1925. He was raised in Denver and Cheyenne, Wyoming, graduating from Cheyenne High School and for a short time attended the University of Wyoming. Leon served in the military during WWII, enlisting in the Army Air Corp in 1943. He flew in B17 bombing missions over Europe out of Diss England as an Aerial Gunner in the 100th Bombardment Group. After being honorably discharged in 1946, he served as a Sergeant in the Wyoming Air National Guard until 1951. Mr. Hebert was a self-employed businessman for most of his life. While in Cheyenne, Leon, with his wife and partner Valier, owned the Gambles Hardware store. In 1965 Leon became the owner operator of McDonald's franchises in the Santa Cruz County area. He retired in 1994. Leon enjoyed cooking, gardening, golf, friends and travel. He was a member of the Roman Catholic Church and the Benevolent Order of Elks. Mr. Hebert was preceded in death by his wife, Valier, and is survived by his two children, Joseph Hebert of Longmont, Colorado and Peggy Morowski of Knoxville, Tennessee. A Memorial Mass is planned for Saturday April 20, 2013 at the Oakwood Memorial Chapel 3301 Paul Sweet Road Santa Cruz, CA beginning at 10:00 AM.
