Obituary of Jami Lynn Post
Please share a memory of Jami to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jami Lynn Post was born May 7, 1963, in Watsonville, CA and passed Nov 3, 2024. She lived her entire life in Santa Cruz County. She was adopted at birth by her grandmother, Opal Wadkins. Jami was born with Down Syndrome and her grandmother raised her to be everything Jami wanted to be.
Jami attended special education programs throughout Santa Cruz County until she became an adult. She then attended work and recreation programs. Her last years she enjoyed every minute of the HOPE program in Aptos, CA where Jami loved her staff, fellow clients and all the field trips and activities provided to her. She made trips to Oregon, Stanford Women Volleyball games, Monterey Bay Aquarium and Disneyland.
One of Jami’s dreams was to have her own apartment. That dream came true in 2010 with the amazing staff of Santa Cruz Supported Living. For several years she lived with her true-blue friend Joaquin. She later lived on her own at the beautiful new Water Street Apartments, again with support from her team from Santa Cruz Supported Living.
Jami earned many ribbons and trophies over the years swimming, horseback riding and bowling with Special Olympics. She absolutely loved all kinds of music and dancing. Her favorite thing to do was to go to Jamba Juice for a peanut butter smoothie.
She was the most talented hugger and if you received Jami hugs you know you were loved. It is ironic that one of the things she loved the most was hugging which she couldn’t do during the Covid pandemic. That was a hard time for her. Jami spent the last years of her life being cared for and loved by her team at Rachel’s Home II in Watsonville, California.
Jami leaves her lifelong friend Mary Davidson and her family as well as scores of special people who supported her and loved her for her entire life. She is, no doubt, in heaven hugging her grandma and dad as well as the many family members and friends who passed before her. Jami will be beside her grandmother, Opal Wadkins, forever at Santa Cruz Memorial Park.
