Please share a memory of Anthony to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Anthony Edward Garibay, 74, of Soquel, CA, passed away peacefully at home on July 29, 2024, surrounded by his beloved wife Jeanna and family. Born on July 18, 1950, in Ventura, California, Anthony was the son of Richard and Isabel Garibay, who were shining examples in his life. In 1956, the Garibay family relocated to Thousand Oaks, CA, where Anthony grew up alongside his six siblings: Richard, Diane, Joe, twins Loretta and Lorraine, and Candy. Anthony cherished his time with friends and family, often found at Jockey Mead’s plunge—the first public pool in the Conejo Valley—swimming, enjoying the music on the jukebox, and playing miniature golf. He spent many happy hours at the local pool hall, with his brothers and sisters and friends, where his father managed the hall, for the Mayor of Thousand Oaks. Anthony loved barbecuing for family and friends, always with a big smile or a funny expression, and was a true confidant to those around him. In 1974, Anthony moved to San Jose, where he matured and met the love of his life, Jeanna, in 1981. They married in 1982 and shared 42 wonderful years together until his passing. Anthony and Jeanna loved to travel, vacationing in Mexico, Hawaii, Arizona, and New Mexico. They embraced the outdoors, bought a boat for waterskiing and enjoying adventures on local lakes such as Lake Shasta and Lake Mead with family and friends. Riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle was another of Anthony’s passions. Together with Jeanna, they attended motorcycle rallies in Hollister, Reno, Arizona, and Sturgis, South Dakota, often meeting up with loved ones for raucous gatherings. A dedicated hunter and fisherman, Anthony spent winters hunting elk in Colorado and Wyoming with his family and friends. Summers saw him chartering boats out of the Channel Islands, where he and his loved ones fished the Pacific Ocean’s bountiful waters. He fondly remembered these times, often saying, "Our freezers were full." Everyone looked forward to Anthony’s and Jeanna’s annual 4th of July backyard BBQ—so fun and crazy. Anthony was proud to have achieved 50 years in the Carpenters Union, specializing in custom stairs. Anthony was preceded in death by his adored mother Isabel Garibay, father Richard Garibay, and his older brother Richard Garibay. He is survived by his siblings: Diane (Kerry), Joe (B.J.), Loretta (Dave), and Lorraine (Mike) and Candy; as well as 9 nephews, 9 nieces, 12 grand-nephews, and 18 grand-nieces Cancer is relentless, and Anthony fought it valiantly. He will be sorely missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him—his caring nature, sense of fun, and unforgettable personality will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. A Celebration of Life for Anthony will be held on Sunday, September 15th , 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm, at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 632 South D Street, Oxnard, CA 93030
