Mr. Violet Scott, known as "Scotty", died at the Palo Alto Veteran’s Hospital at the age of 74.
Violet was born in Zachary, Louisiana on June 22, 1949 to Henry and Bessie Scott. He was the youngest child of seven. He graduated from Chaneyville High School at age 17. In 1969 he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served in the 71st Aviation Company in the Vietnam War. With an honorable discharge, he returned to Santa Cruz in 1971. He married Karen H. Scott in 1979, and lived in Seattle, WA for the next 20 years, before returning to Santa Cruz in 1999.
Violet was loved by many and friend to all. He was a proud veteran with a generous spirit and warm smile. He was a member of Progressive Missionary Baptist Church. He loved children, especially babies, reading, and socializing. He is survived by his wife Karen, son Marvin, daughter Maya (Doug) Martin, stepson Justin (Norma) Dawson, grandchildren: Marvin Jr. and Xochitl. Also his sisters: Carrie (Sterling) Whitley and Priscilla (Lloyd) Whitley, and a host of adored family and friends. Preceded in death by his parents, his siblings: John Henry, Earl T, Louise, and Curtis, and his favorite dog, Henry.
Funeral services will be at Oakwood Crystal Chapel, 3301 Paul Sweet Rd., Santa Cruz on Thursday, March 14 at 2PM with viewing from 1-2PM. A Celebration of Life to follow at VFW Hall, 2259 7th Avenue, Santa Cruz.
