Ernie passed away on November 29th with his family by his side. He was 93. He touched many lives with his gentle spirit and warming smile.
Ernie was born in Salinas, CA. and graduated from Salinas High School. He joined the National Guard Reserve after high school. He worked for Nob Hill as a grocery clerk for over 40 years. After retiring he volunteered for Meals on Wheel for over 20 years and was a long-standing member of Moose Lodge 545. He was on numerous local bowling leagues and enjoyed golfing with friends and family. He was a Niner fan and a fan of the Raiders losing.
Ernie is survived by his wife Lou Mays-Avelar: son Steve, stepsons Todd & Brent and grandchildren McKenna, Gavin, Brycen and Macy and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Joseph Caten Avelar; Mother Lucy Travers and sisters Kathleen Minhato, Thelma Dekum, Marie Rosita. His generous loving spirit will be missed by all who knew him.
