Obituary of Edward Strock Kendig
Please share a memory of Edward to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Edward Kendig passed away suddenly on June 13, 2023. Ed was a kind and generous soul, and his passing was a great shock and devastating loss to all that knew him.
Ed was born and raised in Willoughby, Ohio, and attended Willoughby High Schools. He was a graduate of the United States Naval Academy, class of 1969. In 1976, he graduated from Golden Gate University School of Law in San Francisco. Ed worked for the EPA in San Francisco, then at the Monterey Bay Unified Air Pollution Control District until his retirement in 2010.
Ed married Becky (“Bee”) Peters in 1983, and shortly thereafter moved to Aptos. In 1985, their precious daughter, Katy Pearl Kendig, was born. In 2013, Katy married Alex Walker and became Katy Pearl Kendig Walker. In 2014 and 2018, Ed delighted in the arrival of his grandson, Samuel Radley Walker, and granddaughter, Barrett Amelia Walker, respectively. In April of 2023, Ed and his wife, Bee, celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary.
Ed will be missed by his family, friends from high school and the naval academy, by friends from law school and his years of work, from motorcycle and bike riding, friends made through fatherhood and grand-fatherhood, and friends made just by being around him. Ed had a unique and impressive passion and ability to maintain his decade-long friendships and to attend all his school reunions and stay in touch with old friends. He loved the outdoors and hitting the road with his buddies whether on bicycles, motorcycles, or fast driving cars.
He will be remembered for his laugh, his sense of humor, his love of Mel Brooks movies, a kind and generous heart, his dependability, his principles and ideals, his love of off-roading, white water rafting, piloting small airplanes, driving the latest and greatest cars and motorcycles, riding bicycles, his affinity for classic rock, playing extremely loud music, and his gorgeous head of hair. Ed was known for his gift of bestowing nicknames on those he loved and knew, for being lighthearted, effortlessly funny, compassionate, sympathetic, thoughtful, honest, and cherished by those he knew.
As of the time of his death, Ed is survived by Becky Peters (his wife), Katy Walker (daughter), Alex Walker (son-in-law and close friend) Sam Walker and Barrett Walker (grandkids), Locy Peters (mother in law), Katy Howard and Marc Davis (sister and brother in law), Sally Self and Keith Self (sister and brother in law), Justin Self, Barrett Self, Lauren Howard, Julie Howard, and Austin Lange (nieces and nephews, and grand-nephew).
