Laurie Sue Raney Obituary

On March 15, 2023, Laurie “Sue” Raney, passed away in Santa Cruz. She had just recently turned 63 years old. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Mary and Jim Monroe, sister Carol Richardson, niece GiGi Gortner, niece Brittney Monroe, grandniece Charlie Barmore, niece and nephew-in-law Raney and Zak Levesque, niece and nephew-in-law Torie and David Petty, niece and nephew-in-law Brenda and Al Hilliker, and nephew Jason Raney.

Sue grew up in the Live Oak area of Santa Cruz, CA and attended Live Oak Elementary School, Del Mar Middle School and graduated from Soquel High School in 1977.

Shortly after graduation, Sue moved to Hawaii and lived on Maui for 5 years before returning to Santa Cruz to complete her college education. She attended San Jose State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting. Sue studied for and obtained the designation of Certified Public Accountant and started and developed her own successful CPA business. After a number of years, Sue sold her business to allow more leisure time and to explore other opportunities.

Traveling the world was Sue’s passion and she partook in many excursions to Europe including Spain and Italy over the years. She also owned a time share in Baja where she could eagerly and necessarily unwind after each tax season.

Sue developed many friendships over the years and she will be greatly missed by all.

Burial at sea will be conducted at a later date.
