Obituary of Carol Musich

Carol Musich shed the surly bonds of earth to touch the face of God on Tuesday, 12/13/2022. Preceded in death by her siblings Rita and Lawrence, along with parents Clarice and Benedict, she leaves behind her sisters Diane, Kathleen, Janice, Dorothy, Anita, and Jacqueline, along with her brother James. Services for Carol will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Santa Cruz Memorial Oakwood Crystal Chapel 3301 Paul Sweet Rd. Santa Cruz 95065.   Carol was born in Laurium, Michigan on Valentine’s Day, 1950 but lived locally in Santa Cruz County since 1960, attending Gault Elementary, Branciforte Junior High and finishing at Santa Cruz High school. Carol started working as a temp for the Water Department in May of 1977. Carol was so eager and talented that she then transferred her skills over to Public Works as a full- time employee shortly thereafter in June of 1977. Carol retired from the City of Santa Cruz on December 4th, 2018. Carol was considered the unofficial “Fire Chief” of the Santa Cruz Fire Department having worked for the department since 1986. In those 32 years, Carol worked with a number a fire chiefs, her first being Chief Ed Ekers who hired her in July of 1986. To quote current Fire Chief Rob Oatey, “Carol was the glue that held this place together as we faced a number of changes and challenges. She was the first person we all would turn to when we had ANY question and needed some assistance. Carol was so kind that she would always help and do so with a smile on her face.” Away from work, Carol loved reading, film, music, her cats, and doing projects around her home. Additionally, Carol was the biggest San Francisco Giants fan (GO GIANTS!!)  More importantly, despite being very private, Carol really cherished time spent with her siblings and living it up in her retirement years. We will miss everything about you, Carol; until we all are together, once again, with all our love, your family.
