Obituary of Joyce Ann Gorley

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our loving mother Joyce Ann Gorley on Tuesday, November 22, 2022. Joyce was born in Santa Cruz, California, on February 28, 1936, and resided in Santa Cruz County for the majority of her life. Joyce devoted the early part of her life raising her children with her ex-husband Kenneth. In 1972 Joyce was able to complete her high school education graduating from Santa Cruz High School the same year her eldest son graduated from Soquel High School. Following her divorce she moved to Scotts Valley with her son Brian where she lived the rest of her life. Joyce volunteered for several local organizations including: Grey Bears, a local homeowners association, and as an elections poll worker. Joyce was an excellent knitter and embroiderer. She created numerous embroidered shirts along with knitted sweaters, scarves and blankets for family and friends. Joyce was one of those rare individuals who actually followed the adage throughout her life that “if you don’t have anything good to say about a person don’t say anything at all.” In the twilight of her life Joyce developed dementia that slowly destroyed her cognitive functioning. We all appreciate the time and energy Brian devoted to caring for Joyce during this difficult period. We also want to acknowledge and thank Alexandra for the daily care she provided Joyce in the final year of her life. Joyce is survived by her three children: David Gorley, (Heather) of Scotts Valley, California; Miriam Siegel (Jerry) of Woodland, Washington; and Brian Gorley of Scotts Valley, California. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Jared Gorley (Anya), of Santa Cruz, California; Alexandra Gorley of Cool, California; and great-granddaughter Klarissa New of Cool, California. Services will be private.
