He graduated from high school in Chico, California and graduated from the University of California Santa Cruz with a degree in Psychology. Sequoia worked in human services with developmentally disabled adults and mentally ill adolescents. His co-workers said that he was very caring and compassionate with his clients. He enjoyed taking his clients on walks along the beaches around Santa Cruz and in the redwoods at Henry Cowell State Park. Most recently, he worked as a supervisor at a residential facility for developmentally disabled adults. He was very diligent in administrative matters and worked hard to improve services for his clients. He was a gifted photographer and he enjoyed taking photos of the beautiful locations in and around Santa Cruz. He loved the ocean, sea lions, elephant seals, monarch butterflies, and pelicans. He enjoyed taking his nephews and his niece on train rides at the Roaring Camp Railroad and taking family members to the Mystery Spot. He was the oldest of five siblings: Miyagi Pocock (deceased), Jenya Pocock, David Hughes and Anna Hughes.
