Obituary of Barbara Jean Grebmeier Dawson

Barbara Jean Grebmeier Dawson passed away peacefully in Santa Cruz, California on August 30, 2022. She was 78 years old. Barbara was born on December 20, 1943, in Beverly Hills, California, she was the only child of Dr. Edwin and Peggy Delman. Barbara graduated with a bachelor’s degree in art education from San Jose State University in 1965. After graduating, she spent more than 35 years as a special education teacher in Santa Cruz. Teaching gave Barbara a way to make a difference in her community and hearing from her former students since retirement brought her great joy. Barbara met her husband, Anthony F.J. Dawson, in Spain while on one of her treasured summer adventures. She and Anthony enjoyed the beautiful life they created together, dividing their time equally between Brixworth, Northampton, England and Henderson, Nevada. Barbara loved traveling the world, cross-stitching, and playing Mahjong and bridge with friends. Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 22 years, Anthony F.J. Dawson, of Brixworth, Northampton, England; her two beloved children, Julie Merrell of Santa Cruz, California and Tony Grebmeier (daughter-in-law, Amber), of Sedalia, Colorado; five cherished grandchildren, Ethan Grebmeier, Owen Grebmeier, Jackson Merrell, Amelia McLeod, and Freya McLeod; and two stepdaughters, Angela Dawson and Allison Dawson of England. A Celebration of Life will be September 17, 2022, from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm at the Clubhouse at DeLaveaga Golf Course, 401 Upper Park Road, Santa Cruz, CA 95060. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to the charity of your choice or to the one dear to our hearts, the Alzheimer’s Association, 550 Water Street, Suite l-2, Santa Cruz, CA 95060. Barbara will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Thank you to everyone for their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
