Obituary of Andrietta Valerie Hunter

Please share a memory of Andrietta to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Long time Santa Cruz resident, Andrietta Valerie Hunter passed away unexpectedly May 12, 2021. She is preceded in death by her parents, Alfonso and Valerie Roldan. Andrietta was 76 years old and survived by her son and caregiver, Patrick Kelly Hunter as well as her daughter, Lisa Marie Leslie (Denie); granddaughter, Morgann Louise-Marie and grandson, Connor Jon; cousins, Carol and Rose, numerous friends and her beloved pets (Betty, Jasper and Captain Jack). Andrietta was born November 25, 1944 in Sacramento, later moving to Santa Cruz at the age of three, where she lived out her life. After graduating from Santa Cruz High School in 1962, she gained employment at Title and Insurance and Penniman Title as a secretary. She then went on to work at the University of California, Santa Cruz as supervisor in the Steno Pool (Academic Service Center) for the Division of the Arts, retiring after a lengthy career there. Andie, as she was known to most, had a serious love for gardening. She was extremely proud of her flowers, trees, succulents, etc. On numerous occasions, as she tended to her garden, people would walk by, stopping to admire, “oohing and aweing” at her beautiful work. Oftentimes, she would walk them around to her backyard to show them more beautiful plants, yard art, and the many stepping stones that she had created. Andie had a knack for gardening which was her pride and joy, and it showed. Her other interests were outings with the Senior Adventurers, Bunco, Mahjong and Mexican Train game days. A celebration of life will be forthcoming. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made in her name to the SPCA or Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
