Please share a memory of Gloria Joy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gloria Joy Mornard passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Spring Lakes on January 18. She was born in Salinas, California to John Towt and Marina Grossi. She grew up in Salinas and graduated from Hartnell College where she met Charles Mornard. They were married in 1949 at San Juan Bautista and settled in San Francisco where they started their family. They moved to Seaside in 1952 and relocated to Ben Lomond in 1958 where they raised their five children until Joy moved to Scotts Valley in 2002. Joy was dedicated to her family, friends and community. She was a gracious hostess who made family holidays and celebrations magical and lunch with friends a treat. She played bridge for years and became dedicated to the practice of yoga. Joy could light up the room with her beautiful smile. She worked for Sylvania and the County of Santa Cruz including the County Probation Center. In her retirement she volunteered at St John’s Catholic Church in Felton and the Senior Center in Scotts Valley. She is survived by her five children Mary O’Keefe, Chuck Mornard (Rita), Julie Phillips (Stu), Carole Schwarzbach (Dan) and Lisa Hill (Jeff), 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. She was involved with all of her family until her passing, impressively using technology to keep in touch until the very end. She will be deeply missed and remembered with love. A private celebration of her life with family will be held at a later date. If you would like to honor Joy’s life you can donate to your favorite charity or Hospice of Scotts Valley, 940 Disc Drive, Scotts Valley, CA 95066.
