Obituary of Hubert Cross III
Please share a memory of Hubert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Hubert Cross, lovingly referred to by his family as "Nuno", a Computer Engineer, and resident of Scotts Valley, CA was unexpectedly and tragically taken from us, Saturday, March 21, 2020 in Live Oak, CA. He was 35 years old.
Hubert was born and raised in San Jose, CA, where he made lifelong friends. As a teenager he enjoyed tinkering with computers and technology and spent many nights with friends hacking on different software and UNIX projects - a passion that persisted into adulthood. After high school, he moved to his parents' native country of Nicaragua where he headed the IT department of his family's business. During this time he obtained his degree in Computer Science and met his soulmate and future wife, Otilia. Hubert’s time in Nicaragua saw him touch countless lives as a social, fun loving person eager to share his enthusiastic love of music and love for technology with all those he met. He wanted the best for his family, his friends and the country he grew to love and call home, Nicaragua. The political turmoil in that country only served to bring out the best in him, his courageousness, solidarity and desire for social justice.
In his spare time, Hubert enjoyed spending time with his family, listening to and playing music, watching movies, reading about politics and philosophy, studying languages and travelling the world. He had a voracious love for learning and conversation; Hubert was a man of noble heart who always spoke his mind. Every moment spent with him, gave you the sense that he was very much present and that he wouldn’t want to be anywhere else but there. Never afraid to recognize his own faults and shortcomings, Hubert always strived to improve himself and see things from other people’s perspectives, genuinely caring for the well-being of those he loved.
Hubert, Otilia and their two children returned to California in 2018. They were welcomed by a wonderful community in Scotts Valley. They reconnected with old friends and made new ones. They had the best year of their lives exploring the redwood forests, taking the children to swimming lessons, martial arts and the library. His family and friends will never completely recover from his loss.
He is survived by his wife, Otilia Cross; his daughter, Emma Susanna; his son, Hubert Wilfrid; and his parents, Hubert Cross and Ligia Latino. He is also survived by his three sisters: Rachel Cross, Ana Leticia Latino, and Ana Patricia Latino.
Because of COVID-19 and gathering restrictions, we regret to inform you that there will not be a public funeral or viewing.
A fundraiser to alleviate a measure of the financial burden that Otilia and the children will experience in the coming weeks and months has been setup and may be found here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/honoring-our-amazing-friend-hubert
Whether or not you are able to give financially at this time, the family would be profoundly grateful for comments and/or messages sharing your memories of Hubert to bring them smiles and solace.
