Richard and I were very close in age; he was born only a month and a half before I was. So I always enjoyed going to Davenport to visit his family. Being a girl, I'm not sure we ever actually played together, but after we grew into our twenties and thirties we enjoyed talking together very much.
I loved the home on Market Street in Santa Cruz, with its long path down to the creek, Aunt Clara's garden, and the wonderful vegetable garden! We both loved the out-of-doors. And I remember well our long talks about the typesetting business, that I was only involved in indirectly, but knew enough to hold my end of the conversations.
My sincere condolences to his family, one and all, and thank you for letting me know about this sad event.
with love, Phyllis

So sorry to read about your Dad the other day. It brought back lots of memories of your family since 2 of our 3 sons were coached by him when they were in Little League. We spent many great games at Harvey West Park over the years. Sometimes over the years I would see him walking on Market St. and I would stop the car and say "hi". He always asked about the boys and what they were doing now. He left a special place in our hearts for baseball as the 2 that he coached went on to play at the college level. Thanks for sharing his story.
