Obituary of Patricia Irene Owens

Pat Owens passed on February 17, 2013 after a brief illness. Born in San Jose to Harry and Belle Moothart, Pat moved to Santa Cruz as a child. She attended Branciforte Elementary School and graduated from Santa Cruz High School in 1946. Pat married her high school sweetheart, Owen Victor Owens. They were married for over 56 years prior to his passing in 2004. Pat and Owen lived throughout the Bay Area before settling in Sacramento where Pat earned her AA degree at Sacramento City College. Pat then worked for the state of California as an administrative assistant before retiring back to Santa Cruz. Pat was active in her children's lives with scouting, church, PTA and camping. Pat is fondly remembered for keeping strong relationships with her extended family and friends. Pat loved to visit and keep in touch with all she was close to. She was active in her retirement. Pat enjoyed traveling especially taking cruises. Pat was an avid bowler, dart player, and an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 7263 here in Santa Cruz. Pat leaves behind her three children and grandchildren: her daughter, Denise Beld and her husband, Jeff, and grandchildren Liana and Giselle Beld, of Santa Cruz; her son, Owen "Bill" Owens and grandchildren, Evan and Morgan Owens, of Elk Grove; her daughter, Lisa Smith of Santa Cruz and granddaughter, Julie Smith and her great grandchildren, Madilynn Smith and Conner Steen of Scotts Valley. Pat had many dear and close friends and relatives who will miss her dearly. A celebration of Pat's life will be held on Sunday March 10th at 1 PM at the VFW, 2259 7th Ave in Santa Cruz. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post 7263 in her memory.
