Obituary of Christy Conroy-Lucio

Christy Conroy-Lucio passed away on the night of January 29, 2013 after a courageous ten-year battle with ovarian cancer. Christy's fighting spirit was evident throughout her life and never waned. Christy was born in Los Angeles, CA. She completed high school in Los Angeles and worked for the County of Los Angeles. She moved to Santa Cruz 1978 and worked for the County of Santa Cruz until she decided to continue her education. She attended Cabrillo College and the University of California at Santa Cruz. Christy began working as a licensed private investigator after graduating from UCSC. She worked in all areas of criminal defense investigation but specialized in "penalty phase investigation." She grew weary of the limitations of being an investigator and decided to attend law school. She attended New College of Law. She graduated in 1996 and was admitted to the California State Bar in 1997. She worked for the law firm of Page, Salisbury and Dudley in Santa Cruz before accepting a position as a Deputy Public Defender for the Office of the Public Defender in Santa Clara County. As an attorney, she championed for the rights of the indigent. As an investigator, she fought against the death penalty. There are at least ten clients that will not be executed because of her efforts. She is survived by her husband, David; daughter, Jessica Lucio; son in law, Chris Connor, granddaughters, Abbyrose and Anagrace Connor; brother and sister in law, Dana and Stephanie Greenfield; nephew and niece, Austin and Bianca Greenfield; Jan Greenfield, sister. Christy enjoyed being a grandmother, shopping, traveling, yoga, dancing, listening to music, gardening, attending Open Studios, and spending time with her family. She was a CASA, Court Appointed Special Advocate, for at risk youth. She sat on the board of directors of Barrios Unidos for many years. A celebration of her life will be held during the summer; specific date, time and location to be determined.
