Obituary of Cleo Paul Strawmyer

Cleo Paul Strawmyer was born September 24, 1914 to Gus and Uba Strawmyer. He was the oldest and the only boy of seven children. The family lived on farm west of Indianapolis, Indiana, near the town of Brownsburg. His parents were God loving people who taught the family the dignity of hard work, honesty, respect for fellow mankind, a care of animals and love of nature. He graduated from Brownsburg High School, Butler College and Butler University in Indianapolis. He attended Northwest Christian Seminary in Indianapolis and graduated with a Bachelor of Sacred Literature Degree and was ordained into the Christian ministry in 1937. He also continued graduate studies at various seminaries. He served as pastor of churches in Indiana, Minnesota, Washington, Oregon, and California. He was the pastor for almost 9 years at Tulare Community Church. Having served 30 years in the Christian ministry, he retired. In 1963 he and his wife, Anita, moved to Santa Cruz where for many years he owned and operated a real estate brokerage and investment office. Once again he retired, however he was not finished. He proceeded to write and publish 2 books and several short stories. One book was published on his ninetieth birthday and the other when he was 93. He passed away October 3, 2012 and is preceded in death by his wife Anita Florence, five months after their 53rd wedding anniversary. He is survived by two sisters, Marie Kivett and Betty Jo Stanifer of Indianapolis and four children, Cleon and wife Della of Terrebonne, Oregon, Jan and wife Debra of Santa Cruz, Uba and husband Ted Kaphengst of Las Vegas and Timothy and wife Margie Jo of Tonopah, AZ, 12 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren, and his many loved ones and friends. He passed away in the presence of his family to be with Almighty God, Whom he loved and faithfully served. Private funeral services will be at Santa Cruz Memorial Mausoleum, 1927 Ocean Street, Santa Cruz, CA.
