Jose G. Sanchez of Capitola passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2012. Born in Mexico City in 1923, he is survived by his wife Teresa Avila de Sanchez and his sons Alex, Leonard, William and daughter Cristina.
After emigrating from Mexico in 1956, he spent over 30 years as a machinist for various defense contractors in Southern California. After his retirement, he moved to Santa Cruz in 1987.
While retired, he was an active volunteer for the Grey Bears and participated in other senior citizen activities at the City of Santa Cruz Louden Nelson Community Center. In 1995, he was elected to the Santa Cruz Seniors Council and recognized by Congressman Sam Farr for his outstanding contributions to the local community.
Private services will be held at Santa Cruz Memorial and St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Capitola, California.
