Obituary of Josephine Alberta Tanner

Josephine Alberta Tanner passed away on Monday in Santa Cruz. She will be remembered for her kind words, smiling face and humor. Josephine was born in Brooklyn, NY and lived there until her marriage to Gilbert Tanner, United States Navy. During the war years she worked at Sunshine Biscuit Co putting together K-Rations and as a Cartographer for the war effort. She lived for many years in Aptos, CA, retiring to Albion ID and traveling to AZ for the winter. She was proud of her ¼ acre terraced gardens in Aptos where she spent a great deal of time. She was a member of Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in Capitola where she was choir member in the 50 & 60's, a proud life-time member of the Ladies Fleet Reserve Association and a Girl Scout leader. Josephine is survived by her son Robert (Marsha) of Watsonville, Gilbert (Jule) of Santa Cruz, Jeanne (Darrell) Stoke of Klamath Falls, OR and son-in-law Ladell Tracy of Sacramento, 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, her sister Mary Meyer and brother Theodore Ellinghaus of NY. She was preceded in death by her husband Gilbert, daughter Christine, her parents and 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Friends and family are invited to a Memorial Mass, Thursday, July 26, 2012 at 11:00 am at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church, 435 Monterey Avenue, Capitola, CA. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall. Burial will be private. Donations in Josephine's name may be made to Hospice of Santa Cruz County, 940 Disc Drive, Scotts Valley, CA 95066.
