Obituary of Greg Galvin

Please share a memory of Greg to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gregory Allen Galvin, age 55, passed away on August 3, 2018 in the Sierra Nevada mountains. He was the loving husband of Mayumi Hiramatsu. Born in Sacramento, California, Greg was the son of Sharon and Jim Galvin, and brother of Jeff and Mike Galvin. He received his education from the University of California, San Diego and the University of California, Davis. Greg was loving, caring, kind, fun and a kid at heart. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. He was genuine and had a big, warm heart of gold. He always saw the best in people, loved his friends and family and wanted everyone to be happy. He showed his love by checking in often and generously offering his time and help - but he was too selfless and humble to mention it. Greg had a cheerful spirit, didn't need much and found joy in life's little moments. Making pancakes for friends or sharing a piece of chocolate at the end of the day made his day. He enjoyed Classic Rock and Jazz, and would happily sing or whistle along. For birthdays, he opted out of presents but enjoyed seeing friends over dinner. Greg could also be goofy and quick witted with a boyish laugh and smile that was infectious. Greg was also an avid outdoor adventure enthusiast and loved spending his weekends rock climbing, mountaineering, downhill and backcountry skiing, mountain biking, diving, standup paddle boarding, kayaking, spear-fishing, trekking and hiking. He was an expert in so many sports: double-black diamond skier, certified Dive Master, 5.11 rock climber. He was also trained in wilderness survival and rescue, and was a proud member of Eldorado County Sheriff Technical Rescue team. In addition to people, Greg loved and cared for our planet. He dedicated his professional career on Energy Efficiency and Sustainability. He was owner of Electrical System Design and Partner and Director of Electrical Engineering at Network Cabling Solutions, Inc. He held 12 certifications, authored and was featured in 7 publications and received multiple awards including 3 from PG&E and 2 from Association of Energy Engineers. Greg was inducted as a Fellow of Association of Energy Engineers in 2014 for his achievement and contributions to the energy and sustainability field. The Association of Energy Engineers has set up a scholarship under Greg's name to honor his legacy. If you'd like to support Greg's cause and legacy, tax-deductible donations can be made to Association of Energy Engineers at https://www.aeecenter.org/about-aee/aee-foundation.
