ELIZABETH STEWART Elizabeth Anne Stewart, age 87, passed away May 18, 2012, surrounded by loving family. Elizabeth was born January 19, 1925 in San Francisco, California. She attended San Francisco State College, and worked there for nine years. After marrying John Gianopoulos, Liz left her work at S.F. State before the birth of their first child. Most of the Gianopoulos family later settled in Santa Cruz County. Liz's three children Janet, John, and James; her four grandchildren James, Jennafer, Crystal, and Troy; and her two great-grandchildren Calista and Piper, have all been dear to her, and she to them. She has loved her family, many good friends, and "all creatures great and small": from her childhood dog "Lassie" to several feline companions through the years, including "Nedda." Liz was attuned to spiritual pursuits, and explored the goodness in Christian faiths and others. She joined the Secular Franciscan Order, and also the Universal Third Order. She had friends at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, First Congregational, and the Unitarian Fellowship, as well as at La Posada. She was an active contributor with the online ministry gratefulness.org. A Scripture passage Liz leaves for us is in Psalm 118: "This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice in it and be glad." In past years Liz served with the Dominican Hospital Auxiliary volunteers. Her family thanks Dr. Brennan, Dr. Wu and the caring Dominican Hospital staff for their attention during this latest transition in her/our life. Services will be private at Elizabeth's request. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: The Albert Schweitzer Fellowship, 330 Brookline Avenue, Boston, MA 02215 OR Missionaries of Charity, 335 East 145th Street, Bronx, NY 10451 OR Santa Cruz SPCA, 2685 Chanticleer Avenue, Santa Cruz, CA 95065
