V. Wayne Shively
Resident of Scotts Valley, CA
Wayne Shively, Born in Spokane, Washington on January 20, 1923 passed away on April 28, 2012 at his home in Scotts Valley, California at the age of 89.
The only son of two ordained evangelical ministers, Wayne traveled extensively as a young man throughout the North Western region of the U.S. before enlisting in the army in 1943 where he spent is military career in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. With medals for bravery he was honorably discharged from the military in 1946. He came home and began a career as a journeyman bricklayer. He married and started his family of four children, eventually moving them to Loon Lake, WA where he and his family owned and ran a summer vacation resort on Loon Lake. He made many friends and acquaintances from his time spent at the lake that would last throughout his life. He eventually moved his family from Washington State to Santa Cruz, California in 1963 where he became a master mason, specially trained in stone masonry. Wayne eventually retired from the construction trade and ran a family business his mother began in the early '70s as an administrator in a convalescence/rest home.
His love of God and zeal for life sustained him through is years. He had a great sense of humor and an ability to make everyone around him laugh. With only a few days left in this world, his loved ones found they had to leave his bedside for brief moments of time to give him rest because we would not stop joking and laughing.
As a WWII veteran, Wayne was honored to be selected by the NorCal Honor Flight Association to be flown to Washington D.C. to visit the WWII Memorial. He was very proud to have received this honor and was excited that his son Ted would be joining and sharing this experience with him. He missed this trip by two weeks.
Wayne is preceded in death by his mother and father, Elmer and Altha Shively, his older sister, Maxine, who passed at the tender age of 5 from a tragic accident, and his beloved oldest daughter, Lynda (Shively) Sutherland. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Nancy (Stanton) Shively, sister Carolyn (Shively) Meisser of Santa Cruz, daughter Pamala (Shively) and husband Brent Anderson of Watsonville, CA., sons Steven Shively and wife Janine of St. Louis, MO., Theodore Shively and wife Cindy of Fremont, CA., and several nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
