I shared a room with Ossie 1953/54 at Mardon Hall, UCSWE (University ot Exeter). It is a long time ago but this evening memories of that time flooded back when I listened to a man playing clarinet and saxophone to a couple of dozen residents of a retirement home In the Villages, FL where I live.
In 1955 Ossie and I graduated with University of London bachelor degrees (Ossie in chemistry and myself in physics). Ossie left for graduate school in Canada and I stayed on at Exeter finishing my doctorate in 1959.
The clarinet/saxophone player played many of the songs of the fifties and sixties and brought back many happy memories. When I returned to my apartment at the retirement home I searched for Ossie and was very sad to learn of his death one year ago.
Mardon Hall had no space reserved for musical practice and rehearsal so I heard a lot of classical music on the clarinet and jazz on the saxophone. It was very happy times - UCSWE at that time only had about nine hundred students but at that time only 2% of the population went to university so we lived with many talented people. We had a lot of fun together and I am very sorry that it took the melodies of a sax player at a retirement home to search for Ossie.
Many happy memories flood back -you had a talented father and grandfather.
