Obituary of Franklin Jose Gaerlan

Franklin Jose Gaerlan passed away on May 8, 2017 at his home in Watsonville, California at the age of 73. He is survived by his two sons, Alexander and Andrew; as well as his siblings, Ervin, Patrick, Philip, Michael and Carolyn. Frank was born in 1944 in the town of Baguio within the Philippine province of Benguet to Jose and Nena Gaerlan. Frank lived in a number of places but settled in the Monterey Bay Area in the early 1960's. He graduated from Pasadena High School and attended Monterey Peninsula College. Frank met his wife, Judy, while she was on vacation in Monterey and he was waiting tables at the La Playa Hotel. They married on September 25, 1971 and enjoyed 45 years together until her passing in 2016. Frank, never liking to be idle, held numerous jobs and hobbies. He was employed for decades as an electronics technician for a medical imaging company. He continued to work even in retirement and was a certified mechanic and smog technician. During his free time he enjoyed gardening and taking walks with the family dog, Scooter. A celebration of Frank's life will be on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at the Oakwood Memorial Chapel at 3301 Paul Sweet Road in Santa Cruz, CA. Viewing begins at 10:00 AM followed by a chapel blessing at 12:00 PM. All who knew Frank and wish to pay their respects are invited to attend. He will be laid to rest along with his wife, Judy, at Mission Memorial Park in Seaside, CA at a later date.
