I knew Joey since Kindergarten. We had a brother-sister type relationship for all the years from Kindergarten thru college. We teased, joked, laughed, cried, protested, listened to music, argued and enjoyed each other's company all the times we spent together. I just found out of Joey's passing and am shocked with grief.
Love you Joey and I know you are leading the band in heaven. Will remember you and keep sweet memories in my heart for all of my life. Rest in Peace dearest friend.
Till we meet again.

I met Joe during the day's of the Fort Ord reuse. There were many many meetings about job creation and the regional economy and Joe was "the man" who kept the conversations focused on the topic of jobs and how to make a difference with the gift of the reuse effort. He provided leadership and inspiration in this realm for so many of us as he fought for those he represented. AND Joe was always such a gentleman. When he entered the room he did so with grace and dignity. He would always graciously acknowledge those of us in the room with respect and engagement. I was always impressed how he knew each of us without "seeing" us. Though I think he "saw" us in ways we didn't see ourselves or each other; truly saw us. We reconnected when our sons were at St. Francis. What a gift to meet him again so many years later. And to watch, and sometimes, narrate, when Joe sat in the stands to cheer his son on at basketball games. The pride Joe showed for Alex was beautiful. Joe will always stand out as one of the regional pillars of change. What a gift to have known Joe. I'm sorry he has moved on so soon. Big hugs and condolences to Susan, Alex and his family.

I have fond memories of playing racquetball with Joe so many years ago, he was a competitive son of a gun, mentally very tough. That toughness served him well when he was faced with so many physical challenges for so many years. I was amazed by his discipline (and toughness) when he regularly challenged himself at the gym - incredible really.
The hilarious "discussions" that he and Susan would have, played out like some episode from "All In The Family", you can't think back on those without a smile.
Finally, his devotion and love for his son, unparalleled.
Joe left this world a better place and he left us with some wonderful memories that help shape us into better people.

Hi Susan,
I just saw Joe's obituary. I'm so sorry.
We used to have a lot of fun when he came into the office. He was one of the patients I really missed seeing when I retired.
I hope you and Alex are doing ok.

It was a pleasure to have met Joseph when he returned to work for Monterey County after losing his vision. Joseph was never blind--he was a visionary, mentor and inspirational person. I feel blessed to have been guided by a man whom instilled the importance of community public service. I witnessed Joseph change the lives of many young people in Monterey County. His wit, joy for life and deep commitment for making the world around him a better place will never be lost--his legacy will live on within the friends, family and colleagues he so skillfully guided.
My heartfelt condolences to the family he held so dear to his heart.
