Obituary of Jewel Rhea King

Jewel Rhea King (Wortman) went to be with the Lord on February 25th, 2017. Born in Atoka, Oklahoma on February 4, 1934, to parents of Ed and Edith King. The family moved to California in 1947. She attended school in Exeter. CA and graduated from Dinuba High School in 1952, and attended College of Sequoia in Visalia, CA. She married Charles Wortman and had three sons, Randy, Chris and Jeff. They lived on their 40-acre ranch, growing grapes for Sun Maid Raisin Co. After spending vacations in Santa Cruz, the family moved there in 1966. She was employed as Manager of the Santa Cruz Credit Union. She was a skilled seamstress, loved square dancing, growing flowers and family gatherings. In 2001, Jewel fulfilled a lifetime dream by moving to the island of Kauai, where she enjoyed growing orchids, listening to Hawaiian music and attending the native church. Her favorite activity was taking the Napali Coast kayak tour. She delighted in showing visitors the sights on "her island". She made many friends while working as a tax professional for H&R Block on the island. Jewel had a kind, generous and loving personality and made friends wherever she went. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Remembered with love by sons, Chris Wortman, of Santa Cruz, CA, Randy Wortman, Kauai, HI, twin grandchildren, Chase and Chelsea, siblings Kathleen Anderson, Arroyo Grande, CA, Dorothy Ordos, San Juan Capistrano, CA, Maxine Parker, Cove, Oregon, Ben King of Salinas, CA, John King, Reedley, CA. Preceded by her sister Gracie Lee King, son Jeff Wortman, father Ed King, mother Edith Maddock and stepfather Bob Maddock. Celebration of Life services will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2017, at 1:00 pm, at Oakwood Chapel, 3301 Paul Sweet Road, Santa Cruz, CA 95065. Jewel will be laid to rest at Santa Cruz Memorial Park.
