To my cousin Marty and her family, I am so very sorry to learn of George's transition. Though I did not have the pleasure of knowing him very well, over the years I have heard so many sweet and dear things about him. He was an admirable man in this reality, which means he continues to shine brightly across the veil in the other. I have no doubt his presence is and will be missed by all of you. Know you are held in my heart and prayers during this difficult time of loss. May Grace and Love be with you all.
Your Cousin,
Ceci Zuniga

I called Martha once to ask her some medical quesions about my niece's battle with a brain tumor back in 2001 and George answered the phone. I had never met or talked to him before, but Martha had told him about my niece's battle. George told me Martha wasn't home but began a conversation with me and answered my questions and listened to me with more empathy than anyone I have ever known. He was the kindest person I have ever met. I could feel his genuine warmth through the telephone. He spoke with me for about an hour that day. I will never forget that day or him.:pray:

I got to know George as an undergrad at UCSC studying biochem. I would find him sitting in his wheelchair in front of the science/lab building in early 2000. We would talk about anything and everything. He would tell me his research project ideas. His passion was HIV/AIDS. His intelligence was palpable. He was a kind soul and I deeply miss our conversations. My condolences to his family.
Your friend always Najla

I did not know George well but I had the privilege -- as a neighbor and colleague -- to witness the loving devotion that he and Martha shared. I offer condolences, both mine and that of my husband Peter Harris, to Martha and to her family. Karen Bassi

Jeff Spiegel and I, Laura Spiegel, enjoyed the driving you both during our 12 year employment with TAPS DVS service. It was always great company with George and his sense of humor. We are saddened that his bright shining personality is no longer with us. However, I am sure he will bring light to all the corners of his new journey. You will always be remembered. Vaya con Dios!
Love, Jeff and Laura Spiegel

George lives in my memory sitting always in the front row at department seminars asking thought-provoking questions that demonstrated his broad grasp of biology and science in general. He was and is an inspiration. My sincerest condolences. Gary Silberstein
