Obituary of June Fidiam

Please share a memory of June to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
June passed away after a brief illness on November 26, 2011. She came into this world as June Lavonne Webb on September 8, 1932 in Malta, Montana. To say she had meager beginnings is a vast understatement. She was born into the teeth of the Great Depression in a two-room tar paper shack that had the benefit of neither running water nor electricity. She followed her dreams and relatives to California and graduated from Fremont High School in 1950. Her first job (the one she always called her favorite) was at San Jose State. She married in 1954 and soon had four young children. At the ripe old age of 30, she unfortunately found herself on her own with four kids to raise, all under the age of six. Through sheer force of will, she managed her household, all on a bookkeeper's salary and without so much as a dishwasher or nanny. Though the first portion of her life presented many challenges, her later years provided much joy. The last 10 years of her career she was able to work for her brother whom she adored. After retiring, she was able to live at the beach and travel to places she'd never dreamed that she'd visit including Viet Nam, Paris, London, Italy and South Africa. She absolutely reveled in the time she spent with her grandchildren, Aly, Cupi, Brittany, Caleb and Jake. Over the last couple years, as her memory played tricks on her, she felt safe and secure under the watchful eye of her neighbors at Surf and Sand Mobile Home Park and the many regulars in Capitola Village (especially the girls at Zelda's) who would find her purses or sweaters and return them promptly to her. June is survived by her brothers Dennis and Roy Webb and her children Mathieu Fidiam (Shannon), Josh Fidiam (Gina), Gabrielle Fidiam-Smith (Brad) and Camille Fidiam. She is also survived by her grandchildren as listed above, as well as Garrett, Jared and Jordan. She was thrilled to have gotten to know her brand new great granddaughter, Marlee. June's family plans to honor her wishes and not have a funeral. They will however hold a celebration of her life sometime this spring which will conclude with everyone walking into Capitola Village and buying a Latte. In lieu of flowers, we respectfully request donations be made in her honor to Hospice of Santa Cruz County, 940 Disc Dr. Scotts Valley, CA. 95066.
