In loving memory, Esther M. Shambley passed away peacefully on August 2, 2015 at Dominican Hospital, Santa Cruz, CA. She was 87 years old. She was blessed with two children, her son Robert D. Harms preceded her passing 21 years ago and her daughter, Patricia A. Garbez resides in Corralitos, CA with her loving husband, Bali Garbez. She was born in Bakersfield, CA to John Baca and Dominique Armejo-Baca on December 16, 1927. She married Harvey L. Harms on March 11, 1949, who has since passed on six years ago. She married Rex Shambely in 1995, who was the love of her life. Together they traveled around the country in their RV before finally settling in Lake Havasu, AZ. Esther and Rex enjoyed traveling, fishing, and bingo. Esther has three grandchildren, Tamara (Tami) Fiske residing in Seattle, WA, Dustin Harms residing in Reno, NV and Casey Harms residing in Reno, NV. She was really fond of Tami who called her almost daily to keep in touch talking mostly about her new great- grandson, Walter Fiske (Wally) residing in Seattle, WA. After the passing of her second husband, she moved to Santa Cruz, CA to be closer to her daughter and son-in-law and resided at La Posada Senior Independent Living Apartments where she enjoyed chatting with friends, gardening, and playing games. She was well liked by many friends and will be greatly missed. She loved a good story and had an infectious smile. From Tami: To my Nonie from her Little Rose bud: I know this wasn't the timing we all wanted but our little Wally needed a guardian angel. Thanks for being my best friend. Esther will be missed by many and she leaves a beautiful lasting legacy of devotion to family and friends. A memorial service will be forthcoming at a later date to be announced.
