Obituary of Harold L. Johann

Please share a memory of Harold to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Harold L. Johann of Watsonville was born on October 28, 1930, in Stockton, California and moved to Watsonville in 1942 with his parents, Stewart and Luella, and his brother, Robert. Following graduation from Watsonville High School, Harold enlisted in the Air Force and served during the Korean War. During this time, he met the love of his life and married Jeanne McClintock. A few years later, Harold and his brother, Robert, purchased Bake-Rite Bakery, a Watsonville institution for over 40 years. During their years of operation, Harold designed thousands of wedding and specialty occasion cakes enjoyed by generations of Watsonville families. Having a long history of service to the community, Harold was a 30 year volunteer firefighter for the Freedom Fire Department, and retired as a Lieutenant. He was also a 45 year active member of First Christian Church, a 50 year member of the Elks Lodge, a member of the Odd Fellows and a longtime member of Spring Hills Golf Club. Always a devoted family man, Harold enjoyed many camping excursions, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. After retirement, Harold and co-pilot, Jeanne, enjoyed RV travelling throughout North America and many fond weekends fishing at the San Luis Dam. Harold is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jeanne; his daughter, Diana Rockhold (Brent); son, Tim (Marcella); his grandchildren, Nathan, Luke and Leah Rockhold and David, Jason, Brianna and Jeremy Johann; and one great-granddaughter, Delilah Jeanne Klein. He also leaves his sister-in-law, Ann Johann, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will hold a private service to honor his life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer's Association.
