Obituary of Margaret L. Hartman

Margaret Hartman's first job in high school was playing her viola for local events. She graduated from Ball State University in Muncie Indiana with a teaching credential and then followed her husband, Bill Sacksteder to Chicago University. They moved to Boulder, Colorado in 1953 where Margaret raised three children, played in the Boulder Symphony, wrote stories and taught English at Baseline Junior High. After retirement, Margaret traveled widely with her sister in-law, Mary Sacksteder, keeping a home base in California. She then moved to Australia and taught at Yiyili Aboriginal Community School for five years. She returned to care for her uncle and aunt in Indiana. Margaret then married filmmaker Charles Hartman of Boulder, Colorado. They traveled together making and showing his films. She finished out the last of her 90 years back in Santa Cruz County. Margaret is predeceased by her husband, Charles, and her son, James Sacksteder. She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Sacksteder of Toronto Canada and Alliee DeArmond of Aptos California; son in-law Michael DeArmond; three grandchildren, Shawn, Marc, and Robert DeArmond; and three great-grandchildren, Luke, Riverwind and Tristan DeArmond. A celebratory service will be held at St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church on Saturday, January 10 at 3:30 p.m.,125 Canterbury Drive in Aptos. A future Colorado memorial service for both Margaret and Charles is also being planned.
