Obituary of Andrew Joel Breda

Andrew was called home to Heaven on Christmas Day. He was a resident of Santa Cruz County for the past 37 years. Andy, as he was known to most everyone, was born in Chicago, IL to Emerson and Naomi Breda on October 21, 1943. The family moved to Tacoma, WA when he was very young and then moved to Cupertino, CA when he was a Senior in High School. He attended Foothill College and graduated from San Jose State with a degree in Business Administration. He spent most of his career working for several government agencies in the purchasing department. He first worked for Yuba County, then went on to work for the Fremont Unified School District and then for the purchasing department for Santa Cruz County from 1976 to 2003. Andy enjoyed going to car shows and auto races at Laguna Seca. He was an avid 49ers fan. He belonged to the Host Lions Club of Santa Cruz and was preparing to be the President of the Lions Club next summer. He always volunteered at the Lion's Christmas Tree lot every year as their cashier. Andy was also a member of Twin Lakes Church. He had been a member of CAPPO (California Association of Public Purchasing Officers). Andy is survived by his wife, Bonnie and son, Chris of Santa Cruz; sister, Karen Kuns of Manteca; nephews, Jim and Steve Contratto; and his beloved dog, Louie. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Andy's name to: American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116. Services will be held on Monday, January 5, 2015 at 10 AM at Santa Cruz Memorial - Mission Chapel, 1927 Ocean Street Ext., Santa Cruz, CA.
