Obituary of Esther Lily Cowan

Esther Lily Cowan passed away peacefully in Santa Cruz on November 21, 2014 at the age of 97. Esther was born in Massachusetts on April 7, 1917 to Peter Peterson and Beda Barman of Sweden. She lived in Malden and Boston, MA and eventually settled in Santa Cruz, CA. She worked as a bookkeeper for a few years for H.P. Hood & Sons Dairy in Boston, MA. Esther had a beautiful voice and love to sing. She sang for her church choir in both Malden, MA and Soquel, CA. She played the piano and spoke Swedish. She enjoyed taking walks and would walk several miles every day. On her walks she met many people and made many friends wherever she went. Esther also volunteered at the local hospitals. Esther is survived by her sons, John Lincoln Coughlin and George Freeman Coughlin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Cowan. No services are being held at this time. She will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery.
