I'll always remember my grandma (Yiayia) Stella for her zest for life & culture. She knew just how to pull me into her stories when sharing her adventurous travels or just growing up Greek in New York. I could always see just how much family meant to her based on her involvement with her sisters as well as the entire Pendias & George clans. She & grandpa Kelly would scour the globe on quests to visit the most interesting places. Their extensive video collection was proof of their fondness for travel. Of course, I also remember her disdain for grandpa "making her" stand and pose for such picture taking. However, she would have a chuckle over it afterwards. I do have one childhood memory that kept me in fear of lawnmowers - when she explained how a part of her finger was missing. I remember thinking, gees maybe the lawn just doesn't need mowing. Even better, just buy mulch instead. Overall, I will miss her strong, independent and spirited self-wit. I will miss her stories, her culture and her dancing in the kitchen. Most of all, I will miss her, personally, for the connection in which we shared that left an amazing impact on my life.
Love,
Fawn

Stella graciously invited me to go skiing with her family in Villars back in 1974 I think. I got to know her a little better than just my buddy's mom.
She was actually cool. And that assessment - determined when I was just 16 - should say a lot!
God bless you Stella!

Aunt Stella, you will be missed by all your family and friends. I have so many memories of our Pendias gatherings over the years, but the one I remember best is when my cousins Marianne and Ellen traveled with me from the East Coast to California to help celebrate Aunt Stella's 90th birthday. She was not up to attending the party, so we went to her apartment the next day. I will always remember the huge smile on her face as we walked in, one at a time. We had a wonderful, loving visit, and that is how I will remember my wonderful aunt. Rest in peace, Aunt Stella.
Love, Jean

My Aunt Stella was smart, sharp and sassy. The most strong-willed of all her sisters, I remember spending days and weeks with her, Uncle Kelly and my cousins and being awed by their strength and daring. Certainly the most active family of all our clan, Aunt Stella kept up with each family adventure....she had stamina and courage and was way ahead of her time as a strong independent and brave woman. It was ALWAYS fun spending time with the Georges -- whether drinking eggnog, helping stuff envelopes for a certain presidential candidate, singing around a Lake George campfire, trying really really hard and unsuccessfully to waterski (but oh the patience in constantly circling back to pick me up), a camping trip Montreal, enjoying volleyball games in the Garden City backyard, seeing the Beatles on Ed Sullivan on that Sunday night so many years ago -- my favorite memories growing up in our family revolve around my Aunts and Uncles and cousins. I hope that Aunt Stella knew how very special she was to us, and how we cherish the memories that keep our family loving and strong.
Love, Ellen
