Obituary of Patricia Lee Sanguinetti

Please share a memory of Patricia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Known as "Nana" to family and friends, Patricia Lee Sanguinetti joined her husband, Walter, in heaven on September 22. Daughter of Alex and Sadie Emerson, Patt was born in Stockton, California where she met the "love of her life" in kindergarten. They married in 1951 and were the proud parents of David and Jim. Although their home was in Stockton, Walter and Patt would frequently visit Capitola. They eventually purchased a cabin in Capitola Village and spent as much time as possible at their favorite beach, Capitola. In 1965, Walter purchased Garbini's Inn in Soquel. He and Patt relocated to Santa Cruz, sharing their lives together until Walter's untimely death in 1974. Patt never remarried, choosing to devote her life to raising her sons and tending to the arduous task of caring for the beautiful gardens Walter had created at their home. She took immense pride in making sure each plant was manicured to perfection. Everyone delighted in the beauty of each year's camellias and hydrangeas. In addition, Patt had a wonderful talent for crewel stitchery, creating numerous works for family and friends. When her sons married, David to Michele and Jim to Barbi, her house quickly became the place to gather for holidays and birthday celebrations. Her favorite time of the year was Christmas, and she spent months making sure each of her grandchildren (Marie, Steven, Donnie, Holly, Nikki, and Jamie) was treated to a day they would talk about for years. It was agreed by all that Patt cooked the greatest Christmas dinner ever! In addition to her sons, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, Patt is survived by her nephew Douglas, and nieces Wendy and Alix. Her numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews fondly called her Auntie Gram. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff of Valley Haven in Santa Cruz for the excellent care they provided to Patt during the last months of her life. A graveside service will be held at Oakwood Memorial Park, 3301 Paul Sweet Road, Santa Cruz. Patt will be laid to rest next to Walter on October 4, 2014 at 11:00 AM. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her name to Hospice of Santa Cruz County, 940 Disc Drive, Scotts Valley, CA 95066.
