Obituary of Luella May Berry

Luella Berry of Scotts Valley, was born in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, where her parents were pioneer ranchers. She moved to California in 1944, married Stuart Berry in 1945. Luella worked as an Executive Legal Secretary with Kaiser Aluminum in Oakland for 33 years. She and Stu moved to the Santa Cruz Valley in 1979, living in Boulder Creek until her husbands death in August of 1985. She later moved to Scotts Valley. Luella worked as a volunteer for Scotts Valley Senior Center, UNICEF and Friends of Wilder Ranch. She was active in New Comers Plus, Jaguar Associates Group and Friends of Santa Cruz Libraries. Luella enjoyed outdoor activities, skiing, horseback riding, river rafting, hot air ballooning, sky sailing, parasailing and sports car events. She took up golf late in life. Luella loved music, reading, crossword puzzles and was an avid 49ers fan. Luella was proceeded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She is survived by her sister Katie Bowman of Arvada, CO, nieces Barbara Bakke of Mayer, AZ, Sue Ann Rovner (Jan) of Portland, OR, Bonnie Johansmeier (Micheal) of Bennett, CO, Judy Beghtol (Gary) of Fort Collins, CO, nephews Mark Bowman (Sandy) of Arvada, CO, and Michael Bowman of Littleton, CO, seventeen great nieces and nephews and sixteen great great nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at Santa Cruz Memorial Cemetary in Santa Cruz, Thursday September 4, 2014 at 12:00 noon. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers donations to Hospice of Santa Cruz Valley and Sempervirens Fund (protecting Redwood forests) would be greatly appreciated.
