Obituary of Marilyn Freeman Field

Please share a memory of Marilyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Marilyn F. Field passed away peacefully at home in Santa Cruz June 20th, surrounded by her family. Born in Wheatland, Wyoming, only child of Margaret and Bernie Freeman, Marilyn spent many happy hours hunting, fly-fishing and camping with her dad. At the University of Wyoming she was a member of the Tri-Delta Sorority and graduated in 1954. Shortly afterwards she married her college sweetheart, John Field, her best friend and traveling partner in their more than 50 years of marriage. Marilyn was treasured by her family for her kindness and unfailing generosity. She was a dedicated mother, tender grandmother, loving friend and neighbor. She is survived by her three sons Dave, Tom and Tim, and daughters-in-law, Debbie, Cynder and Jen. She will be greatly missed by her seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Marilyn's life was marked by her dedication to service and the support of others. When her youngest child was in high school, she went back to school to become a nurse. She relished her years in Good Samaritan Hospital's labor and delivery rooms. After her husband passed away in 2006, Marilyn was a weekly volunteer at Santa Cruz Gardens Elementary School in her daughter- in law Jen's classroom. A faithful member of Calvary Episcopal Church, Marilyn served on the Altar Guild. When her professional career ended, Marilyn travelled extensively with her husband. Together they enjoyed cycling, sailing, snorkeling, and cruising to many exotic locations. An avid sports fan, Marilyn loved the Giants, the 49ers,the Golden State Warriors and Nascar Racing. The family wishes to thank all the many people who were so kind to Marilyn in the final months of her life: her physician, Rosalind Shorenstein, the Kindred Nursing Facility staff, Myrna Smith Home Services, and Hospice of Santa Cruz. There will be a memorial service for Marilyn on July 26th, 10a.m. at Calvary Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society and Hospice of Santa Cruz.
