Obituary of Jack Logan Bellamy

Jack Logan Bellamy passed away peacefully in his sleep from natural causes on Sunday morning at his home in Scotts Valley. He was 88 years old. Jack was born in Memphis Tennessee in 1926, only son of Jesse Pleasants Bellamy and Marjorie Emma Bellamy (Abernethy). He lived in many places through his life including Atlanta, New York, Los Angeles and San Jose before settling in Scotts Valley for 40 years. He received his Bachelor's degree in EE in 1946 from Georgia Tech, his Master's in EE from Cornell in 1950 and did graduate work at Stanford University during the 1960's. He joined the US Navy in 1944 and was stationed in Hawaii at the end of WWII. He began his career as an aerospace engineer working for North American in Los Angeles, Dalmo-Victor in Belmont and finally spending 35 years at Lockheed Martin in Sunnyvale designing antennas for satellites. His most proud accomplishment during his career are the five Milstar satellites currently in orbit above the Earth. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Order fraternity at Georgia Tech, the same fraternity as his son and grandson. Among his many interests, he was a published author of scientific material; playwright; an actor in community theatre; farmer; breeder of goats, dogs, cats wine maker. He was an avid sports fan following all the local teams and having season tickets to the Oakland A's, Raiders and Stanford Cardinal football for many years. His biggest hobby after retirement was genealogy, compiling a vast record of the family lineage. Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 31 years Arline Louise Bellamy, his son John Leland Bellamy and his stepdaughter Jeanette Louise Ford. He is survived by his loving children Michael Logan Bellamy, Patricia Lynne Bellamy, David Miles Bellamy and four grandchildren Jason Michael Bellamy, Ryan Logan Bellamy, Alicia Lynne Bellamy and Mackenzie Lorel Bellamy. Jack was an honest hard working man who definitely made a memorable impression on everyone he met. His generous loving spirit will be missed by all who knew him. Friends and family are invited to his memorial service on Saturday June 7th, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Santa Cruz Memorial: 1927 Ocean St. Extension in Santa Cruz. Burial to follow at Santa Cruz Memorial Park.
