Obituary of Bernice Elizabeth Kohfield

Born May 7, 1930, in Bend, Oregon, called home to Glory on April 15, 2014, in her brother's home in Dublin, CA. Bernice was a long-time resident of Santa Cruz and member of High Street Community Church. Born to missionary parents, Bernice grew up in China, and was a prisoner of War in a Japanese POW camp before being repatriated with her brothers to the United States. When her parents returned to the states after the war, her father pastored churches in Wasco and Mt. View, CA. Bernice began working in Mt. View with Stanford Research for 8 years before settling in Santa Cruz. Bernice worked for the County Court House of Santa Cruz in their cafeteria for years, and then worked in food service at the Dominican Oaks Retirement Center until she retired at 81 years of age. Bernice is survived by her twin brother Bruce Kohfield, his wife June, of Dublin, CA; Byron Kohfield, his wife Virginia of Anchorage, Alaska. Nephews, David Kohfield of Alaska; Gary Kohfield (deceased); Nathaniel Kohfield of Alamo, CA; Nieces, Ruth Ann Ruf of San Diego, CA, Roberta Diaz of Modesto, CA, and Linda Berkeley of Scottsdale, Arizona, and 7 great nephews & one niece. A Celebration of Life will be held in Bernice's memory at the High Street Community Church on Saturday, May 3rd at 2:00 p.m. 850 High Street, Santa Cruz, CA
