Obituary of Tod Ernest Hunter

Tod Ernest Hunter passed from this life unto the next, the way he lived, quietly and without much fuss. Tod was born in Alameda, CA, the first born of his beloved and loving parents, Ernie and Jual Hunter both of whom have gone to rest before him. His dad was a state park ranger so Tod enjoyed growing up in the redwoods which he loved. When he was younger he liked to swim in the ocean. He also participated in square dancing. Tod loved cars and would change to a different car every few years. He was an avid SF Giants fan since the 1960s. His favorite was Willie Mays. He also enjoyed the 49ers and the Warriors as well as the Cabrillo College sports teams. He played baseball for a church league when he was in his 20s. Tod served in the U.S. Army in the early 60s and recently shared those positive experiences. He lived in Santa Cruz County for many decades. He worked at Cabrillo College for almost 30 years, first as a groundsman and then in maintenance. He planted many of the trees that are still there on campus. He was a good and honest man who was quietly generous to family and friends. Tod leaves his devoted siblings: Scott Hunter of Soquel, Gail Montague of Olympia, WA, Leslie (Dougald) Harris of Santa Cruz and Allison Alvarez of Soquel; his nephews: Chris Montague of Maine, Geoff Montague of Santa Cruz and Arthur Alvarez of Florida; his companion of many years, Nettie Meier and her son Shawn; and his "dog walking" friends. He also leaves behind his sweet companion dogs, Stella and Angel. A memorial will be held at a later date. Contributions in Tod's memory to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated. Thank you.
