Obituary of Anne F. Kerrigan

Please share a memory of Anne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Anne F. Condon was born in Cork City, County Cork, Ireland in 1921. As an infant, she came to America with her mother and oldest brother Thomas. They were met at Ellis Island by her father, Richard Condon who had gone ahead to the "New County" to work and secure housing and passage for his young family. The Condons settled in the Bronx, New York, surrounded by friends from Ireland and new friends in the neighborhood. The Condons became close friends with the Kerrigans. Anne and Thomas Kerrigan became friends and eventually married in 1949. They had three children, Thomas, Peter and Nancy and raised them in Manhattan and the Bronx. Irish music and the music of Frank Sinatra, Glenn Miller and other Swing musicians were frequently heard in the Kerrigan household. Visiting relatives, going to parks, The Cloisters, Rockaway Beach, Atlantic City and Palisades Amusement Park were regular family outings. Anne and Tom sacrificed to ensure that their children received a quality education and participated in extra-curricular activities. They enjoyed watching them grow into adulthood and achieving their goals. Anne and Tom's children settled in New York and California. Anne and Tom delighted in their three grandchildren, Noah, Moira and Zoe. Anne moved to Santa Cruz, California after the loss of her beloved Thomas, her husband of 45 years. Given that she had spent the majority of her life in New York City at the time of his loss, she made a remarkable adaptation to her new life in a small beach town. She enjoyed spending time in Santa Cruz with her children, grandson, son-in-law, niece and her husband in Santa Cruz and having visits from her son, daughter-in-law and granddaughters from New York. She looked forward to family gatherings and was always happy to have other visitors from New York, including her beloved sister-in-law Mary, her niece Kathleen, her nephews Michael and Dan and her grandnieces Jennifer and Janice. The tea kettle was put to good use and generous servings of Irish soda bread and wonderful stories were always doled out. Anne enjoyed outings to the Santa Cruz and Capitola Wharf, local restaurants, rooting for and discussing her beloved New York Yankees. Anne passed away peacefully on November 8, 2013. In her final days, she was surrounded by her loved ones. Anne was preceded in death by her husband Thomas, her parents Anna and Richard Condon and her siblings Thomas, William and Richard. She is survived by her three children and three grandchildren. She will be dearly missed. Visitation will be on November 22, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at McGonnell Funeral Home at 1295 St. Nicholas Avenue in Manhattan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on November 23, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of the Incarnation, 1290 St. Nicholas Avenue. Private interment will follow.
