Obituary of Mary Katherine Baer

Mary Baer passed away peacefully in Capitola on June 27, 2013 at the age of 97. Mary was born in Havre, Montana on July 27, 1915 to Louis and Amelia Bay. She was raised in Oakland, CA and graduated from Roosevelt High School. She obtained her Bachelor's Degree from the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA and majored in Music and Spanish. She then went on to teach 2nd Grade in Ripon, CA, and Special Education and Spanish in Santa Cruz, CA. Mary was also a member of Holy Cross Church and Oblates of Saint Joseph in Santa Cruz. She enjoyed music, traveling, cooking, reading, and spoke 3 languages, English, Spanish, and Italian. Above all she was a loving mother and wife, and family was most important to her. Mary is survived by her children, Ted Baer, Lenore and Jack Clark, Brendon and Pat Baer, and Robert Baer; 3 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, 4 nieces, and 1 nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Roger Y. Baer; sisters, Anna, Nellie, Elenore, Lena and Lida; and brothers, Idamo, Andry, and John. Mary was laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery in Santa Cruz beside her loving husband, Roger Baer. A small gathering in her honor for family and close friends is scheduled in August.
