Obituary for Joseph Gene Jelcick Joseph "Gene" Jelcick passed away July 9th, 2013. Born September 9th, 1922 he was preceded in death by his wife Patricia Jelcick and is survived by his wife Coral; sons, Thomas, Terry and James; five grandchildren, six great grandchildren and a sister-in-law Valeta Bauder. Gene attended San Jose State College majoring in aeronautics. He is a retired Air Force WWII pilot serving his country 40 years. As a P-38 pilot in the South Pacific he flew 203 combat hours in 54 combat missions. He was promoted to the rank of Colonel in June 1991 by a Congressional order. A longtime resident of California he was born in Sunnyvale California and raised his family in Cupertino and the Santa Cruz area. He made Honolulu, Hawaii home for more than 30 years before moving to DuPont, Washington. He was active and held memberships in the National Sojourners, Hawaiian Chapter #9 and #439; the Masonic Lodge, Pearl Harbor for 50 years; Elks Lodge #616 for over 25 years; Scottish Rite of Freemasonry for over 35 years; and Military Officers Association. A Celebration of his life will be held Friday August 2nd at 1:00 PM at the Santa Cruz, Memorial Chapel in Santa Cruz, California. Interment will be scheduled at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu, Hawaii.
