Obituary of Percy Whitney

Please share a memory of Percy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Percy "Pete" Whitney passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 11th at his home in Capitola. Pete was born in Santa Cruz on August 16, 1918. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. P.A. Whitney and his father and uncle founded the Whitney plumbing business. It was very successful in the area for many years. Pete was the second generation in the company after it built the plumbing for the Boardwalk plunge and drafted salt water for it from the end of Pleasure Pier. During World War II, Pete served in the Army Signal Corps on Eniwetok Atoll, the Philippines, and Japan. After the war, Pete enjoyed being a member of the Santa Cruz Ski Lodge, located at Soda Springs. He, with his boat partner, Norm Engle, commercial fished on weekends for many years. Pete was a "regular" on bus trips to Reno and at home liked to host parties for friends. He seldom missed a San Francisco Giants game or 49ers Football.
