Obituary of Christine Curley Rodriguez

Christine "Chris" Curley Rodriguez, age 75, a resident of Santa Cruz, California, died on July 5, 2013 at 7:00 a.m. in Santa Cruz. Mrs. Rodriguez was born on August 8, 1937 in Aberdeen, Washington to Isaac "Ike" and Jesse (Saux) Curley. She was an enrolled member of the Quinault Indian Nation. She was raised in the Taholah, Washington area and graduated from Moclips High School in 1956. After high school, she moved to Oakland, California where she met Felix Rodriguez. The couple was married on October 1, 1961 in Reno and made their home in Oakland. After Felix's discharge from the military, they moved to Santa Clara. Here, Chris attended business college. In 1965, they moved to Santa Cruz where Chris worked for Plantronics and the County of Santa Cruz. In 1984, she was diagnosed with Lupus and in 1987, took a medical retirement. She and Felix chose to travel as much as her health permitted. At first, international travel, then closer to home. She loved traveling to Taholah where she would spend time with family and friends as well as attend the general council meeting. Chris also enjoyed cooking and trying new recipes, knitting and crocheting. Surviving family members include her husband Felix of the family home in Santa Cruz; two sons, Patrick Rodriguez of Scotts Valley, CA and Stephen Rodriguez of Taholah; three grandchildren, Danielle Tanner, Jade Rodriguez and Amy Arenas; three great grandchildren, numerous cousins, nephews and nieces; a brother, Harold (Muno) Curley of Taholah and a sister, Evelyn Curley of Taholah. In addition to her parents, a son, Robert Rodriguez; three brothers, Louis, Mike and Lowell Curley and a sister, Nadine Rodriguez, preceded her in death. Services were held at Oakwood Memorial Park in Santa Cruz, California at 1 p.m. on July 10, 2013. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association or the Lupus Foundation of America.
